What’s in my bag (Fall 2016)

Hi dears! Today I’m back with a new post and I’ve decided to show what I have in my bag currently. I’m usually very chaotic about what I carry but lately I’ve been in a minimalize-all mood and my bag’s contents were no exception!

I always carry this black backpack and honestly thank goodness they’re back in style, because backpacks are the easiest thing to carry around. This one may be small but it can fit a lot inside! What you see is what I have with me on a daily basis.

  • My current favorite book, How to be Parisian wherever you are (by Caroline de Maigret)
  • A watch by Daniel Wellington
  • My iPad mini
  • Keys with a fluffy fur pon pon
  • Sunglasses by Stradivarius
  • Wallet by Stradivarius
  • A small makeup bag with some essentials like a mirror, lip balm and lipstick, hand cream and sanitizer, random hair clips and moisturizer samples and, of course, tweezers!
  • A pair of earbuds by Tally Weijl
  • My Filofax planner and a pen

It’s pretty much the basics and they don’t tend to change a lot.

What do you tend to carry around? Leave me comment!

A lazy girl’s salad

If you’re anything like me, then you must know the struggle of loving to cook but at the same time hating to cook just for one. At days like this I prefer tossing everything in a bowl and making a salad, so I decided to share with you my favorite ingredients combination.

You’ll need: any type of greens (I used romaine lettuce), feta cheese, hard-boiled eggs, some crispy bacon, walnuts and dressing. To make the dressing I mixed some mayo, olive oil and horseradish paste and it was incredibly tasty! I hadn’t used horseradish before and now I think that’ll be my go-to staple ingredient for a salad.

Bon appetit!

Too Faced Sketch Markers And Hangover primer (swatches+first impressions)

Hey loves! If you’re following me on my Instagram, then you must have already realized how much I love Too Faced. It’s my favorite cosmetics brand because of the quality, the cute packaging and mainly because they’re cruelty-free; and we love our furry friends, don’t we? So on Tuesday I visited my local Sephora and I got the Sketch Markers and the Hangover Primer. You can call this a mini haul, no?

The Sketch Markers eyeliners have been out for quite a few months now, but I was waiting until my local Sephora had stock of all the available colors so I could grab them all. The time finally came and I was excited to snatch them, until I realized that all the cool colors aren’t (yet) available in Greece. That means that I could only get black, brown, deep lilac, deep green, light and deep blue. No pink, yellow and white for me (boo) … I was informed that  maybe they will become available later, or else I’ll have to order them from the U.S., because I really want to try those colors!

But anyway, I loved them at first sight! The colors are so pigmented and vibrant and the tip is really easy to use (given the fact that I’m no eyeliner pro!). I tested them all on the back of my hand and I was really happy with the color pay off and the pigmentation. I tried a little experiment as well. I kept the sketches on my hand for an entire day and they lasted incredibly well, even through washing them and working with my hands. Five stars for them being long-lasting! I haven’t tried them all on my eyes, just the brown and the green one, but I can safely say that they are among my favorite eyeliners and, if you haven’t already, you should give them a try! Also, let talk packaging, shall we? Those quotes on the sides are life! They have quotes like “too glam to give a damn” and “more magical than a unicorn”. I loved them and I’ll definitely save the boxes this time (I never do!). I also think that they make great stocking stuffers, they’re so cute, don’t you think? I know, I’d be super excited to find one in my stocking!

As for the Hangover Primer, it was exactly what I expected it to be. Light-weight, refreshing and it made my skin very soft. It has coconut water in so it’s very nourishing and it also has the slightest coconut scent that goes away as soon as you apply it, but I don’t mind, I love coconuts! I need to test it out a few more times before I can recommend it to you though. Face primers can be a little tricky with first impressions. I’ll get back to you with it later.

Let me know what your thoughts are! Have you tried any of the two already? Leave me a comment!

November favorite hues

November is officially in and I’m so excited to be layering soft things over me! I love mixing and matching different textures of clothing so this weather is perfection. To be honest, I’m not a very big fan of color on clothes and I’m always drawn towards neutrals and black.

This outfit seems to combine all my favorite details: a loose black sweater with cut-out sleeves and a grey-khaki cotton pair of trousers (both from local stores), a super supple shawl for when it gets chilly (from Tally Weijl) and a pair of black high Oxfords (from Migato). I love to accessorize but I keep it simple, like a ring and a dainty necklace.

Whats your go-to look for this time of year?

I finally got to Meet Matt(e) Hughes

Just when you thought that the perfect man does not exist, there comes Matt(e) Hughes! And he’s basically the dreamiest guy you can think of; he’s charming, dedicated, loyal and what not!

Of course I’m talking about the liquid lipsticks from The Balm Cosmetics which I’ve been putting off buying for such a long time, but I finally caved in and got my hands on the set of the 6 (prettiest imo) mini lipsticks. The set comes with the shades Committed, Doting, Sincere, Charming, Dedicated and Loyal which range from nudes to warm mauves and rich reds.

All this time I’ve been hesitant to get them because of the price point (they retail at about €21 in Greece) which I thought is kind of high for a brand that I haven’t tried before, so it was rather clever of them to come out with mini versions (at €30). The bottles are a bit smaller than I expected them to be, but to be honest, as a lipstick mega-hoarder, I know I’ll never go through a whole bottle of liquid lipstick, so I’m ok with that. I can always get the full size product, anyway!

I must say that the quality and application did not disappoint me at all! They go on the lips smoothly and not patchy at all, except the shade Doting which was the least opaque of all and needed a second layer. I loved that just one dip of the wand was enough to go over the lips fully and I suppose that it’s because of its creamy, almost moussey, texture. Mind you, they dry super quickly! For me that’s a plus because I hate having to wait for the lips to dry, especially when I’m on a hurry, so these are perfect to have on the go.

The only thing that bugged me was the smell…! They smell like peppermint, which is one of my least favorite smells ever and not only do they have that quite strong smell, they also give a cooling effect on the lips which took over 2 hours to tone down… Not a fan of that at all! They also tend to be just a bit sticky, but nothing that a small touch of translucent powder cannot fix!

All in all, I’m very happy with how they turned out and I think you should give them a try. Even though they are a bit pricey, like many high-end brand liquid lipsticks, their application and that they are long-lasting, won’t let you down. Thumbs up, Matt(e) Hughes!

Taking off my makeup only with water?

No matter how much I love doing my makeup, I don’t think I will ever get in terms with how boring it is taking it off! I’ve tried everything, from lotions and micellar water, to makeup wipes, to cleansing foams, you name it!

This week I’m trying something new from the Glov company. It’s exactly what the name suggests; a glove that will take off all your makeup only with water! Sounds heavenly, right? I have the smallest version, the Quick Treat, so let me tell you my thoughts. First off, I think it’s brilliant that it’s a reusable tool, as its microfiber cloth will last for about 100 uses and it’s pretty easy to use, I mean you just add water and there you have it. It’s very soft on the skin, it felt very light and I was skeptical at first as to how my of the makeup it would take off, but it worked wonders. Mind you, I had lots of makeup on and it took it all off leaving my skin absolutely clean and not irritated at all! As I’m wearing eyelash extensions, I didn’t bring it that close to the lashes, but I’m sure it would remove mascara as easy. The only thing you need to do to clean it is to wash it with a little soap and it’s as good as new!

I’m sure I’ll be using it a lot in the future and I’m giving it a big thumbs up!

DIY Cherry Lip Scrub

The last months I’ve been loving matte lipsticks a lot! But they tend to look kind of awful, if the lips are chapped… So, why not make my own flavored lip scrub? It’s super easy!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  1. Granulated sugar. Not a lot, a couple of spoonfuls are enough.
  2. A lip balm, preferably non colored, or pure vaseline. Both are very hydrating to the lips.
  3. A small container.
  4. Food coloring and flavoring essence (optional).

Start by smooshing the lip balm or the vaseline in a bowl with a fork or a silicone spatula. The more you do this, the softer it will get and the easier to work with. Then add the sugar in small parts and mix until you’re happy with the consistency. Try not to add too much sugar, or the scrub will be too harsh on your lips. Now you can add the food coloring and the flavoring essence of your liking. And that’s it! I went with pink coloring and cherry fragrance. Cherry-licious!

Let me know, if you have tried making this yourself!
