I finally got to Meet Matt(e) Hughes

Just when you thought that the perfect man does not exist, there comes Matt(e) Hughes! And he’s basically the dreamiest guy you can think of; he’s charming, dedicated, loyal and what not!

Of course I’m talking about the liquid lipsticks from The Balm Cosmetics which I’ve been putting off buying for such a long time, but I finally caved in and got my hands on the set of the 6 (prettiest imo) mini lipsticks. The set comes with the shades Committed, Doting, Sincere, Charming, Dedicated and Loyal which range from nudes to warm mauves and rich reds.

All this time I’ve been hesitant to get them because of the price point (they retail at about €21 in Greece) which I thought is kind of high for a brand that I haven’t tried before, so it was rather clever of them to come out with mini versions (at €30). The bottles are a bit smaller than I expected them to be, but to be honest, as a lipstick mega-hoarder, I know I’ll never go through a whole bottle of liquid lipstick, so I’m ok with that. I can always get the full size product, anyway!

I must say that the quality and application did not disappoint me at all! They go on the lips smoothly and not patchy at all, except the shade Doting which was the least opaque of all and needed a second layer. I loved that just one dip of the wand was enough to go over the lips fully and I suppose that it’s because of its creamy, almost moussey, texture. Mind you, they dry super quickly! For me that’s a plus because I hate having to wait for the lips to dry, especially when I’m on a hurry, so these are perfect to have on the go.

The only thing that bugged me was the smell…! They smell like peppermint, which is one of my least favorite smells ever and not only do they have that quite strong smell, they also give a cooling effect on the lips which took over 2 hours to tone down… Not a fan of that at all! They also tend to be just a bit sticky, but nothing that a small touch of translucent powder cannot fix!

All in all, I’m very happy with how they turned out and I think you should give them a try. Even though they are a bit pricey, like many high-end brand liquid lipsticks, their application and that they are long-lasting, won’t let you down. Thumbs up, Matt(e) Hughes!

Taking off my makeup only with water?

image

No matter how much I love doing my makeup, I don’t think I will ever get in terms with how boring it is taking it off! I’ve tried everything, from lotions and micellar water, to makeup wipes, to cleansing foams, you name it!

This week I’m trying something new from the Glov company. It’s exactly what the name suggests; a glove that will take off all your makeup only with water! Sounds heavenly, right? I have the smallest version, the Quick Treat, so let me tell you my thoughts. First off, I think it’s brilliant that it’s a reusable tool, as its microfiber cloth will last for about 100 uses and it’s pretty easy to use, I mean you just add water and there you have it. It’s very soft on the skin, it felt very light and I was skeptical at first as to how my of the makeup it would take off, but it worked wonders. Mind you, I had lots of makeup on and it took it all off leaving my skin absolutely clean and not irritated at all! As I’m wearing eyelash extensions, I didn’t bring it that close to the lashes, but I’m sure it would remove mascara as easy. The only thing you need to do to clean it is to wash it with a little soap and it’s as good as new!

I’m sure I’ll be using it a lot in the future and I’m giving it a big thumbs up!

DIY Cherry Lip Scrub

IMG_7136

The last months I’ve been loving matte lipsticks a lot! But they tend to look kind of awful, if the lips are chapped… So, why not make my own flavored lip scrub? It’s super easy!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  1. Granulated sugar. Not a lot, a couple of spoonfuls are enough.
  2. A lip balm, preferably non colored, or pure vaseline. Both are very hydrating to the lips.
  3. A small container.
  4. Food coloring and flavoring essence (optional).

Start by smooshing the lip balm or the vaseline in a bowl with a fork or a silicone spatula. The more you do this, the softer it will get and the easier to work with. Then add the sugar in small parts and mix until you’re happy with the consistency. Try not to add too much sugar, or the scrub will be too harsh on your lips. Now you can add the food coloring and the flavoring essence of your liking. And that’s it! I went with pink coloring and cherry fragrance. Cherry-licious!

Let me know, if you have tried making this yourself!
